2017 Post Season Information and Update

Postby admin » May 22nd, 2017, 2:15 pm

Hi everyone and congratulations about making it through the regular season! Thank you to everyone who contributed stories, artwork, podcasts, audio and video media, and their time to the FBA this season. I’d like to address the following topics to the organization as we move into the post-season.

As you all know, playoffs are right around the corner! We will be updating the playoffs page soon with all the game information.

There will be ample opportunity for people to help with this process, and I’m hoping folks can pitch in, because many hands make light work. You can click the link below to see where we need help, or read further down in this letter to see the specifics of what we’re asking for.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

The playoffs will begin on Monday, May 29. Once the games get going, we’ll be staggering East and West games. In response to the poll that was sent out earlier in the season, we will be using the same game engine for the playoffs.

As an effort to squash the lineup bug once and for all, I ask that head coaches use the following form to submit their lineups to me. Please do so by Wednesday, May 24, 11:59 PM PDT. I’ll be using this information to reseed the wiki and hopefully get everything ironed out all at once instead of fixing little blips here and there.

We’ll also need help with the following aspects of the playoffs:

Game Summaries

Writing play-by-play summaries based on information provided by Commissioner. These will be broken down quarter by quarter and cast “live” in the special events section of the chat room, with the transcripts also being posted into the game-day entries on the wiki

Voice Actors and Written Quotes

Recording quotes from FBA players to be used for Playoff Podcasts (can be on own or during discord call with Rourkie). Will try to get as many characters involved with this as possible. Also looking for people to submit long-form written quotes that can be used in an audio soundbite or “mock interview” setting. Feel free to pre-write clips for winning or losing games/series, and we’ll use the one that’s more fitting. Please see following example for length: it can be longer, but not much shorter. (We can cut down the length after the fact if need be.)

Lance Wildfyre:
Well, we didn’t make the playoffs again this year, but our team’s definitely finding its stride. We got a lot of great players, it’s just a matter of putting all the pieces together just right so that everyone is working not only to their fullest potential, but also to their best within the structure of the team. And that fit can take a while to work out the kinks. We’ll be back next year, stronger than ever.

Game/Match Research and Predictions

Providing information based on previous matchups between teams, interesting facts about teams to highlight, general trivia. Each match needs at least a brief summary of the games before. Also need one analyst to predict the series results for each matchup if possible.

To volunteer for any of the above, click here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

End of Season awards

We will be sending out a ballot shortly for end-of-season award nominees and voting. Please keep your eyes peeled. Looking for analysts to provide their predictions/recommendations for probably recipients of the award. Please send these to Rourkie, and use the following page as a template:

A small explanation for each choice would be ideal, but not necessarily necessary.

Once voting opens for the awards, we will be accepting ballots until June 12. Please do not take playoff games into account for these awards. A separate MVP will be chosen for the playoffs.

Draft Submissions

Submissions for the draft will be accepted up until Sunday, August 6, at 11:59 PM PDT. However, Top 24 submissions will no longer be accepted after Monday, July 17, at 11:59 PM PDT. You can create your characters by submitting them with the form below:

Only one Top 24 character may be submitted by each contributor each year.

Committee Applications

Another item of business that needs to be addressed and started thinking about is the organizational structure and staff for next year. Each of the three community-elected Committee members will have various roles that they are responsible for. There will be two voluntary departments next year which coincide with two of the roles, which will help shape the direction of the FBA’s future.

If you are interested in joining any and all departments, you’re welcome to volunteer for as much or as little as you like. The committee member assigned to the department will come to those volunteers first for help. Similarly, anyone may apply for any committee role (or even all roles) that they wish, with the caveat being that each member can only hold a single committee role per season.

A brief review of the roles and departments is below, along with the type of people we think should consider the role. The committee member does not have to do all that is listed by themselves, but is the point person responsible for those action items. Their departments and other volunteers can and are expected to help out where needed:

Role: Ombudsman/General Volunteer Coordinator
First point of contact between committee and members
Unsure who to talk to? Ask no more
Will be primary person to talk to regarding a committee issue
Will be the committee member who returns contact after a decision is made.

Recommended skills for this role:
An effective but empathetic communicator
Articulate and comfortable addressing individuals and crowds
Not afraid to deliver decisions which may be sensitive or difficult to address
Readily reachable and available – “present” in the league

Role: Event Coordinator
Department: Fun Department (Yay!)
Let Community know about upcoming events
League-wide events (ASW, Playoffs, Other organized tourneys)
Fun events (Organized game nights – CAH, Armello, Golf with Friends, etc.)
Comfortable writing announcements for wiki/slack/twitter regarding upcoming events
Person to contact when “booking” an event like a tourney or a big story line involving multiple franchises, etc.
Coordinate ASW
Maintain FBA Calendar

Recommended skills for this role/department:
Good organizational skills
Must be able to work with people to coordinate multiple schedules
Willingness and time to run ASW events and coordinate multiple people’s entries
Enjoys brainstorming and organizing new events and activities for large groups in a virtual environment
Good at getting people together in one place

Role: Publications and Statistics Coordinator

Department: Media and PR Department
Maintain Wiki/Website
Including Stat pages, tracking trends, playoffs pages, etc.
Fun events (Organized game nights – CAH, Armello, Golf with Friends, etc.)
Oversee organization and production of FBA-wide Publications in print and media format (The Hoop, FBA Followup, Sports Den, etc.)
Be point of contact for individuals wanting to contribute to or create league-wide publications
Put out calls for quotes or article volunteers if needed
Help with the production of marketing material/public facing properties of the FBA

Recommended skills for this role/department:

Loves tracking stats
Good organizational and web skills
Able to see trends in data and analyze them for less-sports-minded folks
Wants to flex creative muscles
Good at/enjoys talking up the league to strangers

Please submit your bids for each role separately here: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1446&p=3308
It will be updated with links to each post by position as more applications come in. You may also email me your application directly and I will post it on the forum on your behalf. The deadline for committee applications is Sunday, June 18, at 11:59 PM PDT. Election ballots will be due by the following Sunday, June 25, at 11:59 PM PDT.

Primary Contact Applications

We will be putting out more information about this after the playoffs are underway. However, we ask that people start thinking about whether they want to apply to be the primary contact point for any of the teams for the 2017-18 season. As a reminder, each primary contact may elect one secondary contact to help split up the franchise duties of a team however they see fit. Start to consider any teams you might like to continue telling stories for, or if there are any teams you’d like to move to in an effort to build new story lines.

As always, if you have any questions, feel free to contact the committee or myself, and we’ll be happy to answer any of your questions.
