Theodore arrived at the stadium but saw that no one was in the main court. It was all quiet and he had his basketball in one hand and his gym bag holstered over his head and shoulder. He reached over and placed the gym bag down on the floor. He took his basketball and bounced it in his dominant hand. He did an exercise called "lines" which he ran quickly from the side court. He ran as quickly as he touched each line and did it all the way full court. He continued this exercise to ease his mind off being picked but he wanted to work hard to obtain it. He didn't stop for a good solid 15 minutes.

"Looks like the people are slowly coming in," Theo said before he headed over to the main court where the draft candidates are trickling in and getting ready for their first scrimmages. "Let's show them what I've been doing throughout my years of practicing, Mom." He spoke to himself and walked on over to the stadium, seeing all the other draft candidates getting warmed up for the second day of the combine.

Yueng waited impatiently for his translator to arrive. He had been up early that morning, already done his stretches and had his breakfast, but his translator had overslept. A glance at his first-gen oPhone told him he was going to miss out on the first matches of the day, which irked the red panda to no end. Here he was, in America, trying to show how great he was, and how great China was by proxy, and his American translator was lazy. When at last the knock came at his door, Yueng flung it open and stepped out, bag over his shoulder. "Let's go!" he barked in Mandarin.

A few minutes later, the pair arrived at Explorer Stadium, and Yueng had to show his pass numerous times to be let in. Others laughed at his jersey, but he was proud of it. It was, and it was official. He would proudly bear the pink and silver uniform of the Hangzhou Prawns! And, as he suspected, the courts were already getting full, a point he made sure that his translator understood was his fault. Tossing his bag down and shedding his warmups, Yueng cricked his neck, then tightened the laces on his worn sneakers before stepping out, hoping to fill a roster spot in one of the forming scrimmages.

Red steps into the court for the scrimmages and begins to stretch, knowing that such things are important to show what he's capable of. Yet even so the entire time he's stretching his eyes are constantly moving, looking at his competition, sizing them up to see how they appear to measure up against him. His best chances of getting noticed is to find the right person to deal with, to know which ones to play with or against to make himself look the best. Now it was all just a matter of trying to figure out which those are. Once done with stretching he stands up and goes to greet some of the others, wearing a false smile at the same time, he doesn't own them a real one just yet.
Always remember no matter how bad the situation may get, a Pessimist will always believe that any change could only be for the better. An Optimist would disagree.

Jerome was filled with nervous energy; had been all morning. Though most players would not see it this way, but everything about this was fun. Basketball was just fun period; in truth, most like what that movie said, he could sense God's pleasure when he played. Something was just so freeing. Well.. this time might be a good test of that theory. Scrimmages were taking place, the full court scrimmages, and they were intense to say the least. Jerome'es eyes narrowed down the length of his long beak. There one the opposite team stood Trent St. Croix, master of perfection. The dolphin smirked. Giants have to be faced sooner or later.

Becca McCloud, Muldoon, Yeung, Kyle Mcleod, and himself had formed a good team. He knew Kyle, but the rest were new. IT was good learning experience, especially after facing Trent. That polar bear played as well as he was tall. 'Talk about dope skills,' Jerome told himself, but he had some good moves of his own. Yes, he did well, and some onlookers saw it too. The little good ole boy from south Mississippi had a game to play and he proved it. The game ended in a tie, but he could more than a statement was made by all. This was the combine. This was the FBA. Jerome walked off knowing he was setting his best food forward.

First day of the rest of this hectic week. Julian was as ready as he could be.

The pressure was enormous. Not only he had to show skills as best as he could, since he felt he wasn't as condecorated enough for people to look at him as a serious competitor; he also had to impress his potential agent Blake Toivonen and juggle the media well enough to keep to notice him and keep them interested on him for the right reasons other than his maybe too slender physique and other minor slip-ups that would be augmented to the max.

Scrimmages went rather well, with the canine satisfied at his display. Being with the likes Edwin Griega and Tanya Feckle at that moment eased up the activities a bit. And speak of the devil, he arrived just in time to dodge the bullet that would make him work alongside Trent St. Croix on the scrimmage that followed his. Forget his apparent skills, the tension they had would've messed up his game.

He quickly washed his face, freshened up a bit, and prepped for the rest of thw workouts. Next up. IronFur for Edmonton. He was quick, he was nimble, he got this.

Hal had thought he started the day well enough. After having a bit of a rough housing match with his room mate he'd gone to bed at a decent hour and woken up to have a jog around town. He really wasn't the type that enjoyed long runs but he felt he needed to do something to get his blood moving, get warmed up enough for the scrimmages and timed trials later that day. So the large alligator slipped on some gym shorts, grabbed his keys, wallet, and phone and took to the early morning streets. He jogged for about half an hour and then promptly realized he had gotten utterly lost. Big cities were never really his thing. It took time and more than one awkward gas station shirtless visit to put him on the right path back to his hotel.

By then he was nearly late to get to the stadium and get himself signed onto one of the scrimmage teams or register for the time trials. So he took a faster than light shower and quickly through his PPM jersey on. He even paid for a cab to take him straight there, a luxury he seldom afforded himself. The gator strode into the stadium that was already filled with onlookers, fans, other draftees that he recognized and even more he did not, and of course the veterans and general managers with their talent scouts and head hunters fast at work. Sucking in a deep breath and snorting it from reptilian nostrils he set his bag down and made his way to the various registration tables before managing to find a team that needed a forward.

Dufrain worked, and he worked hard. Pushing himself perhaps a bit too far past his limit. Reptiles didn't sweat after all, so he was reduced to a panting mess, his large maw gaping to release what heat he could between court dashes, pushing plays, or defensive maneuvers. His muscles burned, he could feel the lactic acid build up that was so common in crocodilians. The soreness and overexertion would be worth it these next few days if it got him recognized. It was going to be a long couple of days.

T.J. The six foot eight inch monster decided to step inside explorer stadium for the combine today. He seemed fairly confident in his skills walking around the place with a demeanor of a champion. T.J. decided to skip participation in the scrimmages but did partake in the drills and shoot-around. Every single movement of his body just seemed fluid on the court from a glance. The wolf with a purpose to make sure he was noticed stepped off the court with a towel around his neck walking to locker room to undress and leave for the day, He left many questions and some in awe of his habits but why would he not participate in the scrimmages?

Walking into the stadium, with possibly one of the biggest heads ever is Adonis Fairheart. Adonis was dressed to impress and wasn't apologetic about it, Gold-Chain, The Newest Sneakers on the market, The whole nine yards. Many people of the press drew their eyes to his flashy and out there style alone, but could he deliver on the court? Fairheart participated in the drills and workout sessions but did not participate in team scrimmages, although the eyes diverge from him when every other player was scrimmaging he did wow people. Every crossover he did during the dribble course was jaw dropping, but the finish to basket wasn't the greatest. It just seemed he wanted to make highlights instead of play the game which didn't seem to bother the owl but did bother the others around him. Adonis was then see leaving the building just like he entered, Dressed to impress.

Robert had just arrived at the stadium , right in time for the scrimmages , he thought ... but the moment he entered the stadium the confidence he came with .... left him just as fast. He had never seen so many furs gathered in one place before ... just to see this event ... to see the draftees ... to see him. The number of spectators he was used with at "Iolanda Balas" Stadium in Bucharest was far lower than this. Even though he never got fully used to that either .. back there it felt almost like a family gathering. Apart from that ... every player here was new to him and he didn't enjoy this reality too much.

With all these feelings ... he still gave it a try. His efforts were noticeable but it was very obvious that he was uncomfortable. His lack of communication also made it difficult for him to play his role as efficiently as he would have wanted to. He wasn't the type to get along with just anyone ... and it was very important for him to analyze thoroughly any person before getting into much talk with them.

As soon as this event ended ... he got out of the stadium and went towards the closest park he could find ... unfortunately for him, even this place was heavily crowded. Eventually he found a spot where there were no other furs around and he just sat there with his back on a tree for a while ...
How did I .... get here ?

Ren Inoue took a deep breath as he stepped into Explorer Stadium. The smell of a professional arena was inviting to him, something he missed from playing for his college, just a few months ago. It was much larger than any place he played for Ecola-Pack, and he looked up to the rafters, stretching his back and neck, taking another breath.

It was the first time in a long while he felt like he was part of something. Not some Ronin, couch-hopping from one place to another. He was one step in the direction he wanted, thanks to the support of his family, friends and William King, his so-called "agent." Basketball wasn't the only thing he knew, but it was his comfort zone that he hadn't been in for a long time outside of practicing in public parks and the occassional club he would come across.

Drills were his ritual, no still are his ritual. The magic that kept the demons away and his mind focused. He knew he had this, but without critique, maybe his basics weren't up to FBA levels as he hoped.

Ren closed his eyes hard and took a deep breath.

No he thought. No doubts, no regrets, once the ritual starts, the magic begins, you'll be where you want to be.

At least on the court, even doing drills, he had more control over his life than anything.

He set his bags down and began to stretch.

Pavlov stepped into the stadium in his warmup suit. He was late due to a change in flight, so he quickly got to stretching and warm up drills. He looked around quietly at all of the other players at the combine with a nervous smile. He wasn't sure how to approach them or make friends, especially since he was here to work, and was already at a disadvantage.

He thought of his family back home, and the opportunity this represented both for him and for other children who might look up to him. With that he raised his head high, and gave it his all on the court. This was a once in a lifetime chance to take the game he loved and turn it into something where he could help others while still having fun. He was not going to give that up for anything!

Kelsey Norath:

The days leading up to the combine events were fun and enjoyable to her, considering so many new faces and personalities to mingle with. Granted, it was hard to not notice her come in, or at least her car, considering how the music could be pumped through her car’s system. Much of her time those days were spent getting to know the area, other candidates, some practice, and leading up to the actual combine events.

Early Wednesday, she got up fairly early, excitement for the day’s events getting to her, leading her to get a lighter but high energy breakfast and to get a head start to go and register for her interests in a skirmish and the speed / agility trials. She also expressed interest in some of the one on one meetings and pressers, as needed, but was hoping to focus more on the physical side starting Wednesday and alternating days forward. She hoped she wouldn’t just be noticed for her flashy feathers and her choice of music through the combine.

Benjamin Durby:

The first few days of pre-combine were quite interesting and fun, between the fun spending time with some of the other candidates, as well as the gastrological breakfast adventures with Jake Turner and Trent St. Croix. The dinner meeting with himself and other potential candidates with Blake Toivonen seemed to have went well. But eventually it would become time to buckle down and get to work, to show everyone how he had learned to play from his times in the UK and back in the US.

But Wednesday would be a big day, he wouldn’t mind a skirmish or two, but the whole IronFur seemed to be something that he could use to get noticed further. He knew he would probably not be the best in any one category, but he was interested in the spirit of competition, to show what he could do, even with his comforting balance of strength, speed, and reaction time. Perhapse he could show why he was great with defense, how good he was with his hands. So many things worked well for him with using his tuned senses from his pervious athletic experiences, especially those that translated to basketball very well in the end.

Sometimes he waited to see the various media, GMs, and agents, trying to see if there was any he would recognize from the UK, especially with his previous history in the UK as a prospective goalie for the UK soccer clubs. But he had shut that back in his life, decided he would rather play other sports, play basketball, a sport he enjoyed and loved more. But he was still occasionally concerned that he would get some figurative lashings from those who felt he made a mistake for obtaining an education and perusing the sport he loved instead of the sport they loved. But that would all be in good time, he assumed. And he was sure to be ready for it when those questions came.

Kalsang Namcaki:

Kalsang took his time with the events leading up to Combine week. He had a few things he needed to get done, cleared up, and get down and ready to go. But overall the bulk of his Wednesday was really just checking out the competition, attending the early speeches and events, looking over the registration forms, and hitting the facility’s weight room

He kept around the skirmish courts during Thursday, due to his somewhat PD like mind, profiling a little, examining the competition and how many of the other candidates played, though he was working to loosen up and ready himself for the big IronFur competition. He was hoping to do well in the strength portions due to how he had worked for years already to improve his physical condition and strength on and off the court. However he knew that could only take him so far. But even with this more serious way of looking over his fellow players, he was still a goofy young pup most times, willing to joke around and get along with others, even though his size and his bark could give some people their pause.

Sofía Kikian

Though her entrance to the combine area a day before events had started had been fairly quiet other than her old vehicle, she hadn’t been so quiet about on Wednesday and examining the schedule. Overall she was willing to go and mingle with the other candidates, compare experiences over the past season, talk with some of the other players she had played on the college circuit, and overall get more aquainted with the general audience. Though she did get distracted by someone who looked like he had lost track of his Reggae band and was toting his bongos along with him. In the end though she had some ideas of where she’d like to go and when.

Always an early riser, she got up and planned on finding some partners for potential skirmishes and drills. She would like to try and impress with her ball handling and quick positioning skills, something she had always worked hard with, pulling the team together, and working like a well-oiled machine, getting the ball to an open player, getting the ball to someone in the right position to score and to make sure everyone worked well together. She truly hoped to impress with her skills, but she was unsure of what to do in some cases, especially as she was more trained to be behind a camera, not in front of several cameras. She hoped she could avoid some of the more pressing pressers, but knew she couldn’t avoid all of them, especially here.

Youssef Goulten:

The South African springhare wasn’t sure what to expect at the Combine. So many things in the States were larger and grander than he had expected, and this was no different. Occasionally he would be a little confused by some of the jokes and figures of speech used by some of the presenters on the Wednesday, especially with how he may have spoken English, but with how his home country was such a melting pot of languages and expressions, sometimes the uses would be confusing. In the end, he enjoyed the chance to meet other potential candidates and fellow players, to get to know them and the club representatives.

Towards Thursday, he woke early, found a small restaurant to get a fair breakfast for himself. He wished to skirmish and look forward to the IronFur events the following days. Overall he wasn’t sure how the press may handle his use of language, especially as he was working to avoid using the slang he would be safe using back home. That may be the most difficult of challenges he would face, outside of competitions with his fellow players. But he hoped he was ready for these challenges… they would only get more difficult further down the line.

Day 3, like the last day Warren had gotten up early, cleaned up and was off and running. Yesterday had been busy and intense, and he had done a number of Skills & Drill exercises, and then Physical testing in the weight room. The only difference so far was today Warren was starting off with the Physical testing, and currently he was running on a treadmill. It certainly was a tricky balance, as much as Warren wanted to perform well in the Combine, he also didn't want to overexert himself so he'd perform poorly later. Last thing he wanted was to get injured now.

One thing that still plagued Warren was his aversion towards the media. His agent had tried to get him to talk to some of them, but Warren had mostly passed them by, settling to work on practicing and training. He knew that he'd have questions asked sooner or later, but he'd rather have one on one meetings with the media, not the busy, spontaneous and noisy ones with cameras, mics and lenses shoved at him.

Warren was also glad that he was meeting more people than at Trent's Party, He hadn't spoken to many then, but he was trying to be more social now. One thing that Warren felt was the right decision was picking Aditya Anggun for his hotel roommate. It had surprised Warren how much they had in common, especially some of the worst things that had occurred to them both. Adi was much better about sharing some of his history than Warren, but he did tell Adi about some of it; that was difficult, but also helped cement a growing friendship. As troubled as their pasts had been , Adi and Warren certainly shared the same determination to overcome that darkness and persevere. He and Adi had frequently practiced together, and were helping each other as they tried to make themselves stand out among all the other draft candidates for the Combine.

Thursday

Becca Arrived around the same time the rest of the Draftee's arrived at the stadium, many grouping up to form scrimmage teams, seeing a few of the FBAngels, as they'd dubbed themselves spread among the various groups forming, so she made herself available to another of the groups playing, and joined with a dolphin named Jerome, a badger named Tanner, the late-comer red panda Yeung, and the tasmanian tiger named Kyle. the scrimmage game they played against a very determined team lead by a polar bear that stood eye to eye with the vixen was a very good workout and team building exercise, the match ending in a tie.

Afterwards the vixen headed over to the practice courts and prepared for the ironfur sprint, as well as various other drills, then it was off to lunch. afterwards it was time for the sprint, heading down and watching the others as she waited her turn, giving it her best when her turn came.

After that, she did some more skills practice and drills on the practice court and then hit the showers to get ready for the group dinner with the other FBAngels and Iver Drake and others. Then it was off to the hotel for Agent Trivol's social gathering and meet and greet. Then it was off to have an interview with the GM of the Santa Anna Spectrum's.

To close out the day she stopped by the hotel bar and lounge to have a few drinks where she bumped into the very patriotic Eagle named Brad, and shared a few drinks with him while chatting about the days events before retiring to her room.

Jerome Swimmer was feeling on top of the world. In first state of the Ironfur Challenge, he made #10. To some that may not be that big of a deal, but for Jerome, and remembering the pain the regimen he put himself through just to play basketball to begin with, he was on top of the world. But this was day three, and he was doing skills and drills. No time for idleness or arrogance. Sure, he practiced before people came to the stadium in droves, but that did not mean a thing.

...His threes were good, passes seemed actually pretty good as well, that miss on the rebound, made Jerome feel flush. His performance had been pretty good. Despite the compliment he received, it made Jerome actually irritated for once. He loved the game, but one slip up could ruin his chances. He wanted to do so much with his earnings, help in so many ways.....Jerome shook his head loose. Getting uptight was not the answer in a crisis, clear focus was. He got cocky and it bit him in the fin, but still he did not do poorly. Most of the major physical requirements would be over soon. Thank goodness that when finished hell week with that Coach Tozer that his own coach recommended, he was going to come out sharper. Jerome looked on, he was only mammal after all.

Adonis Fairheart

Adonis, Fly Tendencies stepping back into the arena with another day of work in on the court, Today deciding to participate in scrimmages. The calm and almost stoic demeanor Adonis brought to the court today just seemed different from his usual confidence oozing self. Adonis looked like a man on a mission that would not be stopped by anything in his path. His mouth didn't even seem to open to say his usual spiel about how he's the baddest on the court. His flashy passes and streetball like dribble moves weren't as present today either, Adonis played a more fundamental game of basketball and played the traditional role of Point guard, constantly distributing the ball and few attempts driving to the lane. Adonis left the court not a word said to no one which threw a few people off but was overlooked greatly.

T.J. Deloach

The timberwolf walked back in into the combine with plans to make a statement, T.J. participated in scrimmages today and was dominating the paint on both sides of the court, Rebounds, Blocks, Post Moves where all seen by the 6'8 small forward. He looked very comfortable within fifteen feet of the rim at all times, but anything further then that was rather questionable. T.J.'s mid-range jumper wasn't a fluid movement and his Perimeter Defense was dismal, with a performance that could be described as average for his position as a Small Forward. Deloach decided to comeback on Saturday with a better performance then he had and with plans to show he was a full package of a player.

Dufrain had made it a point to -not- get lost on his jog today. Instead he decided to take a long, hot shower instead. He'd be needing his energy for the heavy lifting today. He was planning on pulling out all the stops for that one, the years of manual labor had packed muscle onto this alligator's frame and he enjoyed hamming it up to people. So to get his blood pumping he stood beneath the scalding hot spray. Water at this temperature would probably be quite uncomfortable to his nonscaled compatriots, but with his thick hide it was enough to warm his bones. He was always a bit of a slow mover in the morning. Toweling off and dressing in a fresh jersey he hoped he hadn't woken up his room mate, the oddly colored dog/rabbit Clovis. Hal fixed a quick breakfast and he was at the stadium early.

He went straight for the weight room, the bench trial wasn't until this afternoon, but he needed to at least get a feel for this equipment, so he did some minor lifting, and even managed to find a belt his size to do some heavier stuff. Squats, traps, chest, biceps. He tried to hit all the areas to get them good and limber. He wore a content smile the entire time and nodded to those entering the room to join him. He made as much conversation as he was liable to, which in his case could be a lot, before he finished up and headed back into the stadium proper to find some pick up games and stretch for the sprint challenge also due today. If there was one thing Alligators were good at, it was short bursts of aggressive speed.

Friday greeted the vixen earlier then she was used to, the sun was barely up as she carefully got out of bed so not to disturb the still sleeping Mikaylah, getting dressed in her jogging outfit and heading outside, doing a few laps around the city block, then heading back to the hotel, showering and changing and heading down to grab a good breakfast before heading over to the stadium, finding a good spot in the weight room to do some light lifting to get all loosened up and ready for the ironfur later, then headed out onto the practice court, working on drills, focusing on three-pointers, cause she knew that was one of her weaknesses, as well as running layups and free-throws. Once she made her way out onto the main court after hearing more voices and the bouncing of basketballs on the hardwood, she started looking for a group to play a scrimmage with, finding a 2v2 with a Harrowet named Theo, a Border Collie named Cassidy, and a Toucan named Sebastion. the group never really keeping score, but still playing like they were, she found it a welcome challenge playing against those that equaled her in height.

After the scrimmage it was time for the ironfur, which this particulare even she wasn't exactly looking forwards to, girls and bench-pressing don't commonly go hand in hand, but she bested her personal record for the even, so she was happy to take that away, despite knowing she didn't stand a chance against the larger males competing.

After the Ironfur she showered and cleaned herself up, making it known to the various media furs that she was available for interviews at that time, waiting around in the lobby of the stadium, though after about an hour without hearing anything she sighed and got up to leave, checking her phone and noticing that mika was heading to Li ho Fook, figuring a party was exactly what she needed to lift her spirits, remaining there for the remainder of the evening and into the small of the night till heading up to crash in her bed

Re: The 2014 Draft Combine: Thursday/Friday

Postby CensorBunneh » May 24th, 2014, 12:45 am

Thursday, 22nd Aug 2014

10:14pm, the sound of basketball dribbling was heard coming from a dimly lit streetball court.

Having left Li Ho Fook's party early, Warren and Adi were having a bit of practice after the day's events, as being exposed to large social gatherings were not really their thing, Warren moreso than Adi in this case. Both of them chose to practice further away from the Furriot Hotel, the streetball court being a good few blocks down the road... Less distractions to worry about overall, with all the attention in Huntsville being centered around the immediate vicinity of the Combine.

Passing drills, dribbling drills, duck-ins, different fakes, crossovers, long shots etc, part of the way these 2 new friends who communicated to one another through their actions rather than words - One of the ways people with past traumas of abuse bond with one another.

Unlike communicating about their past, much information about their past the public at large know not of in the privacy of their room in volumes near whispers, b-ball was a language both of them understood, where their actions defined the both of them for what they are in earnest, grins spread across their face, as in their own way, they started to understand each other better.

Image

The sound of dribbles came to a stop as both of them were greeted by a female Kangaroo-rat, waving her arm as she approached them.

Shannon: "Hey Adi! Hey Warren! Thanks for having me over here! Late night practice huh?"

"Thanks for joining us, sorry if we made you leave the party early." Adi replied, waving his own arm in return.

"Eh, no biggie hon, could use some of the practice myself, now that I see you 2 doing that." said Shannon as she looked about, observing the dimly lit area
"Good practice for control huh?"

Warren gave a soft smile and nodded lightly, while Adi explained that he felt that if one is able to adapt with both light and dark, playing in the light would technically put one at an advantage technically.

Wasn't long after that the 3 of them started some basic practice, just to gauge how well they can work together as a team... Though that in itself was tricky as there weren't others to go up against. The company was something they silently agreed that they enjoyed however - The sound of basketball being dribbled, the backboard, the hoop being hit and the swish of the basketball going through the hoop - Therapeutic sounds that the 3 enjoyed in the silence of the night...

...

"Still can't believe you guys are having me here practice together" Shannon said.

"It's the last day for the scrimmage tomorrow, for 5v5 at least. The half-court 3v3 tops come later..." Adi replied.

"I guess... it's the last day to make a good impression with as many people as possible." Warren continued.

"Yeah... None of us here have had our scrimmage matches isn't it?" Adi said, eyes shifting from Warren and Shannon and back.

With that, the 3 of them fell into a momentary silence, likely weighing the gravity of the situation.

Shannon broke the silence
"So why am I here?"

Adi: "Hmm?"

"I'm guessing you're looking to form a team right? Wouldn't be there more qualified people for the job?" She continued

Adi: "I need your strength."

Shannon: "Huh?"

Adi: "Your dossier, I had it looked up, your crossovers are very good, and in terms of changing directions mid-dash or mid-run, you're amongst the fastest ones here."

Shannon looked at Adi a little surprised, surprised at the fact that he did his research before calling her there

Adi: "A 3 Guard Offense strategy focusing on high speed, run-and-gun style attacks paired with my irregular passing, in case we don't make it for the 5v5 scrimmage time period... It maybe short, these practices, but a short preparation period is better than nothing."

"Irregular passing?" Shannon asked, puzzled

Nodding, Adi replied "On Twitter, remember when I said my strength is in passing?"

Shannon:"Yeah?"

Adi looked at Warren, and then back at Shannon again "There's only so much Warren and I can do by ourselves. And to practice the 3 Guard Offense strategy, I needed one more person..."

"... All situations considered, you're the most fitting personnel... *ahem* fur that I can think of. I need both your jumping power, speed and mobility put to good use. Warren can cover shooting from the 3pt Line and anywhere on the inside, you can handle isolation play and break through opposing defenders with your mobility, and we can likely set you up for assists with my passes"

Understanding the situation better, the Kangaroo-rat took time to digest the information given to her, and began to get a clearer overall picture of the painting described but...

"Irregular passes?"

"I'll pass the ball to you" Warren chimed

"Yeah, take a position where you're most comfortable for a layup" Adi continued, before going off to an obscure part of the court that makes no sense when it comes to tackling the opposing team's hoop - Somewhere past the half-court.

With Shannon in position, Warren started to dribble the ball away from the opposing team's hoop too, as if to draw defenders away

"Shannon! Both arms!" Warren shouted, as he threw ball.

Image

She was ready for a catch, but was perplexed at the direction of the pass. It was practically flying in a direction not meant for her.

A fumble? No way, it could be, Warren's too good to fumble a straight forward pass... So what was...

THUD!

The ball was intercepted almost as soon as it made it's first bounce on the hard, concrete floor, virtually flying straight at her like a bullet

Image

Though surprised, she reacted to the situation quick, and caught the high speed pass with both her hands, even if staggering back a little

She jumped, and did a quick layup, getting the ball into the hoop effortlessly... And that was the end of that

Image

"I was right" Adi said smiling
"A lot of people I know of wouldn't have been able to catch their pass at first go. Your reaction speed is astounding. It is also part of the reason why I wanted you to join us."

"No shit dude! You coulda at least warned me!" replied a still surprised Shannon

"It was sorta a test..." chimed Warren, smiling
"He did that to me too"

"To you too? How?" Asked the puzzled Kangaroo-rat

"My pass redirects. I am able to angle the ball in any direction in 360 degrees at an increased or decreased trajectory, that includes accelerating a pass or redirecting the ball back at the passer instantaneously to throw off their marks." Adi explained, as brief as he can.

"The 'Rail Gun' pass, it's one of the several passing techniques I use. This playstyle is a playstyle that takes a while to develop in a team, and has important emphasis on teamwork, where I support everyone else as s shadow, where everyone will be the one scoring and I support everyone from behind and we throw off the opposing team with highly irregular passes. The problem with this playstyle though, is that it requires... trust..." He continued, unsure if what he chose were the right words.

"Ey, don't fret about it hon, we got some practice in didn't we? That counts for something I'd say!" said the Kangaroo-rat, a wide grin spread across her face
"We can't use that as a full fledged weapon, but dayum, I'll be danged if I said that ain't cool right there!"

"But..." Warren said, finger under chin
"You said tomorrow's the last day for a full court competition right? Have you considered who else will fill in the other spots?"

Adi: "... We're going for a 3 Guard Offense, so we'll be starting off fast and strong, a high paced offensive through and through, but this strategy would result in us losing steam as the game goes on. We'll need folks who'll pickup on the game as we start to slow down on the offense, player who can bring on the defense, but stay nimble and have decent jumping power too."

With that, Adi thinks for a moment... then continues

"Warren, you can fill in the role of a SF too, but just stay on the outside as much as you can, we'll need your clutch shots, Shannon would have to take care of the rebounds along with the Forward and Center we'll be going with tomorrow, I'll take care of that from time to time, but will have to balance my time on the inside and outside. Our Forward and Center would have to be defensively aggressive to balance our high speed offense play, and at least one of them has to be a pick-up player, starting off slow and then becoming increasingly aggressive towards the later parts of the game if to just throw the opposing team off their pace and make up for the 3 of us slowing down. None of the 3 of us here are defensive players. We'll have to start off strong and then try to hold them off as long as possible."

Pondering even longer...

"We'll have to break through their defenses, which will take a lot out of us. One full, high paced game's our limit, we'd be too burnt out for a second game immediately after, especially without substitute players..."

Friday, 23rd Aug 2014

The day went by like the previous ones pretty much. Adi started off his day having breakfast with Ada and Aida, and carried out the usual activities, including participating in the Ironfur Competition, for the day.

Come 5:07PM, he took out his phone, and posted onto Twitter
"Reminder to @_WarrenDoyle, @LS_Grandon34, @ChefSharknado and @ShickRat. We have 53 min till we begin 5v5. Please proceed to court for warm ups"

Half an hour prior to the start of their own scrimmage, everyone's assembled at the main court, and began warming up...

Game Respects Game

Postby Darkwolf » May 25th, 2014, 5:37 pm

Damian hustled around the top of the key, catching a ball and nailing a 17 foot jump shot at the top of the key. He held up his hand as he reset and ran the drill again. He took another pass and nailed the same shot, but this time he shuffled down the free throw line and caught another pass before knocking down another jumper.

"Nice work Damian. Take a minute," the assistant called out.

"One more round. Come on man," DW called for the ball as the assistant shook his head.

"Chill out man. You've been non-stopped all day. On top of the Ironfur thing yesterday and then today, you're going to burn out."

"Look Miles, if I'm not workin' someone else is," Williams replied.

Miles shook his head. Despite his size, there was nothing he could do to stop the determined wolf. "Fine. Just don't work too hard." He walked over to the bench and sat down as Williams started shooting again. He looked down at his phone and yelled to DW. "Hey D-dubs! You know you've got shooting drills in 30 right?"

He looked back and huffed. "Yeah. Why?"

Miles face-palmed. "Are you trying to kill yourself? Get outta here and relax for ten minutes stupid!"

DW chuckled and nodded. He grabbed his stuff and jogged out of the gym running past a few familiar faces as he refilled his water bottle at a cooler station. He watched as Seba Kosciusko walk by, chatting with Rebecca McCloud. Damian remembered peaking in on their scrimmage earlier with Cassidy Whitelatch and Theodore Rockwell. Adam Tevela jogged past as Williams chugged some water. He sat down in a chair as his buddy Miles met him in the hallway. “You feeling good?”

Damian nodded. “So far. No interviews beyond that weird 50 question thing they made us do.”

Miles chuckled. “They’ll interview you. Don’t worry.”

DW nodded and replied. “Spectrums want to talk to me. Not sure who else.”

Miles patted Damian on the shoulder. “You play three positions, can shoot the lights out and no one plays D like you…D.” He laughed, joined by DW as the two chatted right up to the start time of the drill.

“Alright Miles. I’m off. Catch you in a few.” Williams headed back to the gym, seeing the lineup made of mostly made up of guards and small forwards. The spot up shooting drill was a staple of the combine as every team needed good shooters. 15 shots. 5 from the left, five from the right and five dead on.

"Alright, first up. Carlin." DW smiled as the instructor handed his old pal Clifford Carlin a ball. He watched the diminutive mutt drain shot after shot until the drill finally ended. Damian clapped his hands and smiled. "Nice stuff CC!" Cliff smiled and waved back as he grabbed a towel from his bag.

"Green- you're up." The UDub alum grabbed the ball as Josh set up at the three point line for his turn.

"Go get'em Josh!" DW turned to see PJ Zarr standing a few feet away. As Josh went through his drill, PJ looked on with intense focus. Josh kept a good rhythm as the sound of the net colliding with the ball created a steady beat. PJ smiled wide as Josh finished his round. The instructor wrote down the percentages and as PJ called out to him.
"Nice shootin' man!"

DW chuckled and called back."Where was that in the finals?" Josh smirked and brushed off the comment, but PJ seemed to take offense. He stormed over to the chuckling wolf and glared at him. Williams looked down and couldn't help himself. "Eh, what's up doc?" A few of the other players chuckled, but PJ was having none of it.

"Only reason you won that game was because Hiro was hurt."

Wiliiams shrugged off the rabbits comments. "Okay." He replied.

"Tevela!"

Adam headed out for his shooting drill while PJ started to fume. "You think it's not true?"

Williams tried to escape the conversation. "Look man, it was a joke. Relax."

The smaller rabbit never took his eyes off the larger guard. "Well I'm not laughing. Josh played his heart out in that game. Don't mock him." He pushed DW's chest with his finger. The wolf lowered his head and tried not to escalate things. "Look PJ, I'm sorry. Can we relax and focus on the drill?"

The rabbit smirked. "Yeah. Focus on me beating you."

Williams chuckled. "Good luck."

Adam wrapped up his time as the instructor wrote down some numbers and called out, "Zarr!" PJ hopped towards the three point line. He wasn't known for his shooting, but he was ready to show people what UDub pride was all about. "Just like we worked on, PJ. Find a rhythm," Josh instructed. PJ nodded as DW watched with cold stare. The hare started hot, knocking in two of four from down town. He missed his next two, but with Green clapping his encouragement, knocked in 3 of the next 5. His next two bounced out, but he swished the final one and glared at Williams. "Beat that." He smiled and slapped five with Josh as he came off.

More numbers were recorded as the instructor called out "Williams!"

Damian didn't make eye contact with anyone. He had been challenged. And he had accepted. His eyes had a cold look, the powerful stare of his yellow orbs intimidating and fierce. He caught the first pass and fired off a swish. As if a man possessed, the wolf knocked in another and another. 8 shots later he was perfect before his ninth kicked out. He'd finish 12 for 15 from three. He looked over at PJ with a smile. "Did you say beat or double? I forget."

The hare got in his face again. "You wanna go again?"

"Name the time ." Josh and Clifford moved to break the two up, but noticed them smiling wide, foreheads pushing against each other.

"Tomorrow. One on one." Williams smirked and backed off. "You're on. " He extended his hand, letting Zarr shake it as they glared at each other.

The two would play all day if they had to. Maybe that's what brought them together in the first place. A mutual respect born from competition. Game respecting game. More alike then either would care to admit.

Re: The 2014 Draft Combine: Thursday/Friday

Postby Anonymous13423 » June 3rd, 2014, 10:36 pm

Lee Jin-Sung was glad when he finally got to his room after a long, long day at the Combine. It had been a pretty eventful three days so far. The black bear quickly lay down on his bed, and thought about all the craziness he went through in the Combine so far.

The first day wasn't as eventful; he had just done the basic measurements and registration along with the other 98 candidates, and had maybe checked T. Matt Latrans's question to him on Twitter a little too late to get the Coyote on the Court's full attention. After giving a well-thought reply, the day was pretty much over.

The second day, he was one of the first candidates to step up into the training arena; he had seen Theodore Rockwell already warming up before him; after shaking off a little nerves with a few warm-ups, he decided, along with Theo, to join the other candidates who were slowly filling in the main court. After a scrimmage along with Theo and Edwin Griega against Tanya Feckle, Rebecca McCloud and Sofia Kikian, he committed himself to a few more drills before competing in the Speed part of the Ironfur Challenge, after which he decided to watch a scrimmage or two. He checked out the party/gathering that Theo's agent was holding- Trivol, was it?- and met some other players there as well before retiring to his room.

The third day, today that is, was a bit of a rollercoaster. He hadn't done as much compared to yesterday, just doing more drills, watching some of the scrimmages going on at the main court, and doing some testing at the weight room after the Ironfur Challenge, which was the Strength trial for today. Afterwards, he met up with Edwin at the piano, along with Kevin Malka and Kyle McLeod, for some dinner outside. After nobody really saying anything about where they wanted to go to, Jin-Sung decided to suggest a good Korean place in town, and that had worked out splendidly.

However, things started to turn a bit downhill after dinner and at Li Ho Fook's party. Jin-Sung had left before the wilder antics had begun, and that was because he had received the... rather discouraging news that he placed a mere 40th out of 50 contestants in the Strength Trial. Considering that a lot of the media had said that his potential performance in the FBA could depend a lot on his strength, he immediately froze upon seeing it. Someone (he forgot who it was) tried asking him what was the matter, but he slowly turned away, putting his smart phone back in his pocket. Not really feeling in the mood for a party anymore, he had quickly left.

Now on his bed after cooling down on the way to his room, checking out all the craziness on Twitter that obviously reflected the even more craziness at the actual party, he wondered for a moment: 'They mainly criticized on whether I can hold up physically... Am I really not cut out for this level of basketball?'

But then he remembered again all the competitive fun and thrill (and even some degree of success) that he had over the last few days in the Combine, and all the new people he was meeting as well. He might not be able to perform nearly as well as he did in Korea, but he surely was learning a lot simply by being with all these candidates.

Besides, he came here for a challenge; he had expected some difficulties along the way, and he wasn't about to let that one thing bring him down entirely. He, along with the others, still had the entire rest of the Combine to make a good impression.

He wouldn't be giving up right now.

So after a quick shower and leaving a Korean tweet which half-jokingly contemplated on whether he should switch positions after the Strength trial fiasco, that was that for the day. 'Good night, Huntsville,' he thought as he drifted into sleep.
